In 2012, in South Australia the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia launched the unique "NO BALLS" campaign. The project was a triumph, raising much needed funds for prostate cancer research, awareness and support. The concept was to not ask people to come to yet another black tie ball, but rather to stay at home, put their feet up, enjoy their night and just give us part or all of the money they would have otherwise spent, to support our very worthy cause.

The campaign was so effective and so appreciated by our supporters (who didn’t want to go to another black tie ball), we thought we would wheel it out again this year – however, in a new guise.

We are introducing "NEW BALLS", playing on sporting analogies and reflecting the fact, that although we have been successful with NO BALLS, we have a lot more work to do to achieve what we want – to win funds to fight prostate cancer.

In cricketing parlance, we've bowled well, got the opposition on toast at 6/150, and now we are taking the new ball and giving it to Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood to wrap the innings up for under 200. The tennis analogy – we are winning 6-2, 6-2, 5-2 and we are serving with new balls to drive home the victory. In the case of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, we have raised well over our target from NO BALLS and now we want NEW BALLS to bring home the bacon!

Once again, we are not asking you to come to another black tie ball on a cold winter’s night. Rather, stay at home with your spouse or partner, cuddle up in front of the fire with a bottle of wine and beautiful takeaway, and watch Steve Smith make a century or Nick Kyrgios win Wimbledon on TV. If you prefer, watch a movie or Midsomer Murders (if there is anyone left in Midsomer to kill).

Save money on the tickets (maybe $300), the new dress for your wife or partner (another $300), the shoes, the hairdresser, taxis, babysitter and the auction item Brocky makes you put your hand up for (after you have had a few drinks).
