Men with localised prostate cancer are fortunate to have numerous options for effective treatment. However this does mean that once diagnosed, a difficult choice between these options must be made. This choice involves a trade-off between chances of success and risks of various side effects. It would be very helpful to know exactly how different treatment options compare in terms of side effects. This week, two large studies have been published that have directly compared the side effects of surgery, radiotherapy and active surveillance. Importantly, they have done this by asking the patients themselves how the treatment affected them.
