Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) is honouring the life of Greg Millan, who passed away on May 2, 2025.
Greg dedicated his life to advancing men’s health in Australia and providing support to the LGBTQIA+ community. His legacy will continue to shape generations to come.
Greg was behind the establishment of men’s cancer support groups for the LGBTQIA+ community across the country, and launched the PCFA affiliated Shine a Light — Gay / Bisexual / Trans Cancer Support Group which has been transformative for members.
He also played a pivotal role in establishing the Coalition of Men’s Organisations and later the Australian Men’s Health Forum.
As part of his commitment to Shine a Light, Greg spent many years travelling from Newcastle each month to facilitate the support groups and help promote it at PCFA Conferences, in the media, and at community events like the Mardi Gras Fair Day in Sydney each year.
Shine a Light Management Group Leaders John Wenborn and Dr Gary Morrison said Greg’s legacy will continue to live on.
“He was extremely passionate about helping men through life’s journey and dealing with some of the awful stuff life can throw at us,” John said.
“I knew him for a long time - he was a wonderful mentor. He set up Shine a Light, and trained us in running and organising the group.
“He was very supportive and encouraged men to share their stories of recovery from prostate cancer.”
Thanks to Greg’s tremendous lifetime commitment to men’s health and the LGBTQIA+ community, hundreds have received life-changing care and support when it was needed most.
PCFA CEO Anne Savage said Greg was a formidable force in the fight against cancer.
“Greg was a tireless advocate for our work and has inspired many,” Ms Savage said.
“His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, and the lives he will continue to touch through the Shine a Light Group and the other initiatives he poured his heart into.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Greg’s family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him.”
