As medical bills soar each year, the financial pressures for many men faced with prostate cancer can be a huge unexpected burden to families. A new study by PCFA and Griffith University will investigate the true financial burden to men diagnosed with prostate cancer and the impact this has had.
The aim of the study is to document the economic burden faced by patients and families affected by prostate cancer, to examine out-of-pocket expenses, the impact on employment and the experiences with the public health system and health insurers.
The research will be used to develop information and resources for the Australian community and to help PCFA to advocate for ‘a better deal’ from the public health system and health insurers.
We are calling for volunteers to complete a short, one-off, 20-minute survey at this online link:
https://prodsurvey.rcs.griffith.edu.au/prodls190/index.php?sid=43185&lang=en before 30 April 2013.
Your responses will be completely anonymous and the findings will only be reported in aggregate.
Further background to the study can be found in the opinion piece "How much is this all going to cost?" by David Sandoe and Anthony Lowe which can be found on page 14 of the latest edition of Prostate News:
