Eight year old Max Brooks from Duncraig will be running for a reason close to his heart when he participates in the HBF Run for a Reason on May 24 2015. He will be raising funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).
Max was only three days old when his paternal grandfather aged 59 years passed away from prostate cancer – a disease that affects more than 20,000 Australian men annually.
Natasha Brooks, Max’s mum had always enjoyed running, and Max recently got into the sport through participating in parkrun – a 5km free weekly run every Saturday at Carine Glades.
Seeking a longer distance, Max then enrolled in the HBF Run for a Reason along with his mum, and set the target of $200 to fundraise for PCFA.
"We approached family and friends to help Max reach this target, and have been overwhelmed with the response we have received, with the total nearing $2000 with three weeks to go until the event", Natasha said.
"Max and our family are proud to be supporting PCFA, and want to raise awareness and funds for this cancer that can be successfully treated if caught early enough".

Cate Harman, State Manager WA of PCFA said that "We have set the target of raising $20,000 through participation in HBF Run for a Reason, and we urge others to support PCFA through their teams or individually. This amount will provide 250 patient packs to help support men in WA who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer".

Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in Australian males and is the second greatest cause of male cancer deaths in Australia. Around 3,300 men die of prostate cancer in Australia each year, that is, one man dies every 3 hours. More men now die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer.
