Australia's longest-serving airline has 'manned' up for men's health coming on board as the major sponsor of It's A Bloke Thing's (IABT) 2015 prostate cancer fundraising initiative.
The 2015 QantasLink It's A Bloke Thing prostate cancer luncheon was launched at the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport today with organisers hoping to eclipse last year's $1.2 million fundraising effort - the most successful daytime fundraising lunch in Australia.
The 2015 It's A Bloke Thing Foundation chairman, Mr John Fitzgibbons, says the IABT committee is delighted to welcome QantasLink on board and applauded the support of all those involved.
"We (John Wagner, Gary Gardner, Mark Crampton and this year's chairman, John Fitzgibbons) started IABT four years ago and are extremely proud it has become so successful in raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer research," he says.
IABT today also announced it would continued its partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, who will equally match all funds raised by the IABT.
So far, the IABT has provided critical funds for Australian Prostate Cancer Bio-Resource (APCB) and the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation IABT Education Roadshow in addition to other beneficiaries.
Prostate cancer accounts for 30% of all cancers diagnosed in Australian men every year and is the second most common cause of cancer-related death, after lung cancer.
"Prostate cancer is not an old man's disease, so we need to encourage as many men as possible to get checked," said Mr Fitzgibbons.
This year's fundraising lunch will be held at the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport on August 11, with more than 400 people expected to attend.
Celebrity chef Alistair MacLeod has also come on board to cater for this year's event.
