Robotic prostate surgery rush driven by faith in technology, not science - by <a target="_blank" href="http://www.afr.com/jill-margo-j7gd4">Jill Margo</a>

Confidence in technology rather than science is driving half the men in Australia who have an operation for prostate cancer to choose a robotic procedure over traditional open surgery.

They are doing this without solid evidence that the robot is superior. Experts say there is currently nothing to show it can provide better potency, continence, cancer control or survival.

They say the surge in robotics is a perfect example of how medical technology can run way ahead of science.
