To diagnose prostate cancer, a pathologist will carefully study samples of the prostate taken in a biopsy. If a tumour is spotted, they will examine patterns of cells to estimate the severity of the tumour, and help guide patient treatment. For quite some time, pathologists have known about a distinctive pattern called intraductal carcinoma of the prostate. New evidence from Australian researchers is finally shedding light on what this pattern means.
