Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is the latest technology for delivering effective radiotherapy to tumours whilst minimising damage to the rest of the body. It’s used as an initial treatment for localised prostate cancer, as well as a post-surgery treatment if the cancer reoccurs in the prostate area. Recently, media articles claim that a new IMRT technique is able to cure men with prostate cancer who previously had no hope. Are these claims over-stated? This week’s blog looks at the latest progress in IMRT technology.
