WA local Neil Farrar will run 200km this September as part of Team Cloudbreak Dusty Demons, who have set a fundraising target of $50,000 for prostate cancer awareness and support.
Neil and his team’s efforts are part of The Long Run – Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s (PCFA’s) fundraising campaign helping love go the distance for all men affected by the disease.
Neil lost his Dad in 2020 to prostate cancer and will participate as a Long Runner for the third time this September, during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
“I promised my Dad that I would try and make a difference by helping to raise awareness of this terrible illness,” Neil said.
“I feel it is not talked about enough – more men need to understand the importance of speaking to their doctor, knowing the symptoms of prostate cancer and what to look out for.
“Enjoy yourself and get in it for The Long Run by teaming up with friends and family to help one another to keep going, and most of all make it fun.
“Our team has a large fundraising target for the most important cause – all donations will help support men and their families through diagnosis and treatment whilst battling this terrible illness.
“The donations will also fund further research so hopefully we can make prostate cancer history.
“Since losing my Dad and working hard to raise awareness I have found out so many of my friends and their family members and work colleagues have been impacted by prostate cancer.
“This drives me even more to keep raising awareness and donations for PCFA to keep doing the tremendous work that they do.”
Neil encouraged Australians to run, walk or ride this September by signing up via www.thelongrun.org.au, or to donate directly to PCFA by sponsoring a Long Runner.
PCFA CEO, Anne Savage, thanked Neil and Team Cloudbreak Dusty Demons for their tireless efforts to raise funds and awareness for all men affected by prostate cancer.
“More than 70 Australian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every day, accounting for 16 per cent of all newly diagnosed cancers in our country,” Ms Savage said.
“This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we are calling on all Australians to help us make prostate cancer history – by participating in, or donating to, The Long Run.
“We are so thankful to Team Cloudbreak Dusty Demons, who are running, walking and riding to start crucial conversations, raise vital awareness, and funds this September.
“Every dollar raised through The Long Run helps PCFA support all men affected by prostate cancer, and their families.”
