Aussies called to commit to a cure for prostate cancer this Valentine’s Day
With 250,000 Australian men impacted by prostate cancer, and living with the side effects, Valentine’s Day can be tough.
In response, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) is calling on Australians to share the love by committing to a cure.
Between now and Friday February 14, all donations to the organisation’s Valentine’s Day appeal online will be doubled by TENA Australia.
PCFA Chief of Mission and Head of Research, Professor Jeff Dunn AO, urged people to rally for research.
“Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with 1 in 5 men likely to be diagnosed in their lifetime.
“It’s a disease that takes a profound toll on men, their partners, and their families, with lifelong side effects that can impact men’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.
“We’re tremendously proud to team up with Australia’s leading supplier of continence products, TENA, to raise funds for research this Valentine’s Day, continuing our quest for a cure.”
Campaign ambassador and survivor, Rob Herrod, said he hoped the campaign would inspire new awareness of the impacts of the disease.
“Any man who has experienced prostate cancer, like I have, knows how tough it can be,” he said.
“The side effects of treatment can be brutal, and can impact every aspect of men’s lives.
“I’m incredibly proud to be championing this campaign to raise awareness and funds to find better ways of diagnosing and treating prostate cancer, so that men like me can live their best lives.
“I’d urge men and their loved ones to jump onto the campaign website today to leave a message of solidarity and hope for all of us.”
This year, over 26,000 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
