The highly anticipated Cruise for the Cause is back for 2021, with riders and drivers from around the Northern Territory getting ready to rev their engines to raise funds for local men impacted by prostate cancer.

The annual event, founded by motorcycle enthusiast Dan Leather in 2019 which raised $28,800, will be held on Sunday, 13 June 2021 in Darwin to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) and target Northern Territory issues.

Riders and drivers are asked to be assembled from 8:30am, where they will take off from Eva’s Café (George Brown Botanic Gardens) at 10.30am, and ride 30km through the city, before arriving back at The Cavenagh Hotel (Cavenagh St). Finishing with a Shannon’s Bike & Rod show and presentation event.

Dan encouraged anyone with a classic, vintage and custom motorbike, or a hot rod, muscle car, classic car, or whatever their pride and joy, to get involved for this cause.

“We want everyone to be suited and booted, and dressed to impress for our annual cruise,” he said.

“It’s a great day out, with hundreds coming together with their beloved vehicles to support PCFA.

“All fund raised from Cruise for the Cause will be used for research to help more local blokes be part of clinical trials and have access to support.

“We need to keep our grip on the throttle, stand on the accelerator and put the brakes on what’s really an out-of-control insidious beast. We need to protect the health of existing and future generations of men here in the Territory and improve quality of life for men diagnosed with prostate cancer.”

Dan said, the recent launch of the STARGATE Project by PCFA highlighted disparities in prostate cancer mortality rates, and late-stage diagnoses across the Northern Territory.

“Around 15 per cent of prostate cancer cases in the Northern Territory are diagnosed at stage three or four – when prostate cancer is hardest to beat,” he said.

“With Territory blokes having some of the worst survival outcomes for prostate cancer, we want to do what we can to help. The earlier this disease is detected, the better the outcome.

“Cruise for the Cause is all about changing the lives of men in the Territory, improving survival outcomes, and ensuring that local men are supported. Funds raised by this event will be used to assist Territory blokes with clinical trials and halting their illness, and we already have blokes receiving assistance.

“Please get involved and support the cause. It’ll be a day out you don’t want to miss for spectators and participants alike.”

To register, visit www.cruiseforthecause.com.au. Participants are encouraged register prior to the event and assist with raising funds by seeking sponsorship through friends, family, and workmates.

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia CEO, Prof Jeff Dunn AO, thanked Dan for his ongoing commitment and support.

“We are proud to support Cruise for the Cause and want to commend Dan on his commitment to reducing the burden of cancer across the Territory,” Prof Dunn said.

“Every 30 minutes one of our fathers or sons will hear the news he has prostate cancer. Alarmingly, it remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia among men, with life-shattering side effects that can impact the whole family.

“Everyone who takes part in Cruise for the Cause will help achieve greater outcomes for men impacted by prostate cancer, and their families.”
