This September, Icon Cancer Centre has stepped up to make a difference in support of Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s signature fundraising campaign, The Long Run.

The Long Run encourages Australians to cover at least 72km throughout Prostate Cancer Awareness Month – a symbolic distance honouring the 72 men diagnosed with the disease each day.

The partnership will see Icon Cancer Centre staff clocking up kilometres throughout September, and driving donations to accelerate research, expand specialist nursing support, and strengthen community awareness.

Icon Cancer Centre CEO Paul Fenton said the organisation was proud to stand with PCFA and every Australian family impacted by prostate cancer.

“We know first-hand the difference that a timely diagnosis, world-class care and wrap-around support can make for men with prostate cancer and their loved ones,” Mr Fenton said.

“We’re extremely proud to be involved again this year and have staff from right across the country lacing up for the cause.”

Icon Cancer Centre is currently recruiting 10 new PCFA Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses across the country, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to delivering world-class care.

The new specialist nurses will be based at Icon Cancer Centre locations across South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, ACT and Western Australia (Tennyson, Windsor Gardens, Noarlunga, Rockingham, Canberra, Gosford, Maitland, Redland, Springfield and Ipswich).

“This marks a major milestone for Icon Cancer Centre, with more than a third of our 42 Australian sites soon to have a dedicated Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse,” Mr Fenton said.

“These specialised roles provide a lifeline to men and their families, offering expert guidance, emotional support, and a trusted point of contact from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship.”

PCFA CEO Anne Savage thanked the Icon Cancer Centre team for making a difference.

“Community action is key to cancer control, helping us to raise awareness of Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer and encourage early detection,” Ms Savage said.

“It’s a disease that takes a significant toll not just on men, but also on their partners and families, and on our community.

“All funds raised during The Long Run will support men and their families, clinical trials, prostate cancer nurses, and our nationwide telenursing service.
