With nearly 25 years of history, the Bendigo Prostate Cancer Support Group is stepping into a new era with a change in leadership.
Neil Macdonald, a dedicated member for over a decade and leader for eight years, has recently handed over the reins.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago, Neil has been a guiding light in the community’s fight against the disease.
Always ready to lend a hand and take action, he also chaired the organising committee for Bendigo’s Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch.
Since its inception in 2010, this annual event has raised over $700,000 for prostate cancer initiatives.
2024 also marks Neil’s final year in this role, which allowed him to remain involved with both groups while others took the lead.
During a special November meeting, support group members expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Neil for his remarkable contributions.
Linley Watson, PCFA’s Southern Regions Community Engagement Manager, presented Neil with a thank-you certificate, recognising his profound impact on local men affected by prostate cancer.
Jenna Sing recently took over as support group leader.
An oncology nurse and the founder of the Gobbe Wellness Centre at Bendigo Health, Jenna is eager to continue Neil’s legacy while bringing her passion for holistic care to the group.
"Neil has been such an inspiration, and I feel privileged to follow in his footsteps," Jenna shared. "I'm excited to build on his incredible work and support the group in new and meaningful ways."
Jenna’s leadership is already resonating with members. She recently organised a skincare session that, despite initial hesitation, turned into a hit.
Participants tried out various products, some of which they claimed: "knocked 10 years off their age!"
The Bendigo Prostate Cancer Support Group meets at 6pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Bendigo Athletics Centre. New members are always welcome.
Thank you, Neil, for all you’ve done. Your leadership, dedication, and tireless actions will continue to inspire us all.
