Arthur Pearce and Nigel McBride prove that age is just a number. At 96, Arthur is the Latrobe Valley Prostate Cancer Support Group's oldest member, while 54-year-old Nigel brings youthful energy to the group.
Despite nearing a century, Arthur defies the constraints of age, finding joy on the golf course. With a gleam in his eye, he aims to be the oldest member of the Yallourn Golf Club, eagerly awaiting its 100th anniversary in 2026. "Staying active keeps me young at heart. There's no stopping when you have a passion for life," Arthur says.
Nigel, an avid runner, faced a double whammy when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and Achilles tendinitis at 52. Undeterred, he plans to document his journey from diagnosis to running the Melbourne Marathon in October, raising funds for PCFA. "Every step I take shows my healing and the strength within us all," Nigel reflects, ready for his third marathon.
Led by Allan Cunningham, the Latrobe Valley support group offers encouragement and companionship. Meeting every fourth Wednesday at the Morwell Club, members like Arthur and Nigel find support and a community that transcends age and circumstance.
With every golf swing and marathon stride, Arthur and Nigel embody resilience and determination, inspiring others to face life's challenges with courage and positivity.
