Gumbuya World Theme Park was the perfect backdrop for this year’s Casey Cardinia’s Biggest Ever Bloke’s Lunch, where fun and fundraising for prostate cancer came together. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the event attracted over 450 men for a day full of laughter, camaraderie, and giving back, raising more than $75,000.

Comedian and MC Des Dowling kept everyone entertained and on track, despite the boisterous atmosphere. Former NBA star and Australian basketball Hall of Famer Chris Anstey captivated the audience with stories from his career, including a memorable game against the legendary Michael Jordan.

David Schwarz, a former AFL player and radio personality, delivered a candid talk about his battle with gambling addiction. He shared his personal and financial struggles, revealing how family trauma played a role. Both humorous and profoundly moving, David touched on important issues such as mental health and domestic violence. Each speaker reinforced the call to action to get tested for prostate cancer.

Star News Group owner Paul Thomas gave a heartfelt tribute to Bruce Ellen, a founding committee member who passed away from prostate cancer earlier this year, and the late Chris McPherson who started the Biggest Ever Bloke’s Lunch events in 2009. Casey Cardinia committee members who have been instrumental in its success over the past decade were also recognised.

New Chair Dan O’Loughlin, who took over from Garry Howe, drove home the message about getting a PSA test and expressed his gratitude to sponsors and attendees saying “It’s an honour to lead this amazing group. The support from our community makes a real difference in advancing prostate cancer research and awareness.”

With fun activities like a table knockout draw, live and silent auctions, and raffles, it was a day to remember. A big thanks to everyone who came out and contributed—your support is vital in the fight against prostate cancer!
