In October, 20 legends took the biggest plunge of their lives by abseiling 130-metres down the Central Park Tower in Perth to raise awareness about prostate cancer.
Including John Williams and his INPEX Australia workmates, who formed two teams—the INPEX Sliders and INPEX Window Walkers—and descended 33 floors to raise vital funds for PCFA.
John and his fellow workmate Chris Wilson are both prostate cancer survivors.
“It was a risky situation being on top of a 33-storey building, but it’s even more dangerous not to be aware of your prostate health,” John said.
"1 in 5 men are at risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer by the time they turn 85 years old. Early detection is vital and could be lifesaving.
“I want to encourage all men to be aware of their risk of prostate cancer, to look out for symptoms, and to talk to their doctor about recommendations for their situation,” John said.
All teams raised over $40,000 for PCFA's work in research, awareness and support.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with over 26,000 men diagnosed each year.
PCFA CEO Anne Savage thanked participants for their involvement.
“Community support like this is invaluable to our work and enables us to improve outcomes for men impacted by prostate cancer,” Ms Savage said.
“Thank you for taking the plunge to help change more lives."
