The Mandurah Prostate Cancer Support Group is mourning the loss of Peter Leafe (4 March 1950 – 2 November 2024).

When the group’s leader of 9 years could not continue, Peter volunteered to join our team of Group Leaders, helping to arrange meetings, working on prostate cancer awareness stands at shopping centres and sporting events, and promoting support group activities.

Peter was keen to be our first point of contact on our literature and website, taking phone calls from men concerned about prostate cancer. He was the ‘meet and greet’ person at our monthly meetings.

Peter was an incredibly caring and compassionate person.

Peter was an athlete. He took up triathlons in his 50s, winning events in Queensland, Singapore, and Malaysia and competing in the USA.

Cycling was his passion, riding hundreds of kilometres a week.

It was quite a shock when someone so healthy was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. Despite a prostatectomy, his cancer returned aggressively. In his usual fighting fashion, Peter endured multiple rounds of ADT, radiation and chemo.

He also enrolled in a clinical trial, the only person in Australia considered suitable. He did this not only to save his own life but in the hope it would save other men in the future. Even while undertaking such debilitating treatments,

Peter would still insist on attending Group Leader meetings, adamant about continuing his contribution.

Sadly, he lost his brave battle on November 2, 2024, passing away at home with his family by his side.

Peter’s life was a beautiful example of what it means to live with faith, integrity, compassion, and dedication to those you love. His legacy will live on through his wife, Sue, his three children, nine grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched.
