There’s taking on a new challenge, and then there’s taking on the Sydney Marathon.
But for 77-year-old Trevor Peart, no challenge is too tall after taking on prostate cancer three years ago.
A regular attendee of the Adelaide-Mitcham Prostate Cancer Support Group, Trevor only took up running at 70.
“I like to challenge myself and while I’ve never done a marathon, I’ve participated in numerous 5k park runs, 10k runs and several half-marathons. But this requires a whole new level of dedication and training and I’m really enjoying the lead-up."
“And being diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago and responding well to radiotherapy and treatment, I want to give back and support others on this journey.”
On September 15, Trevor from Flagstaff Hill, a southern suburb in Adelaide, will be one of 24,000 participants at the starting line at North Sydney.
Crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and snaking around Barangaroo Reserve, The Rocks and Pyrmont Peninsula, runners will cover over 42kms before crossing the finish line at world famous Sydney Opera House.
“It’s a remarkable event to be a part of and all the more special to know any money raised by this will go to a cause very close to my heart.”
