Prostate cancer hit for six thanks to the South Australian Veterans Cricket Association
During Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the South Australian Veterans Cricket Association raised around $6000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Around 70 men in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and even 80s played in four very enjoyable Twenty-20 matches.
“A number of our players have suffered from prostate cancer and have survived,” Chris 'Dixie' Daw said.
“The spirit exhibited by the players was superb. Everyone had a go in a pre-season hit out, playing the game we all love, enjoying each other's company and making new friends,” Dixie continued.
“We also raised around $6100 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. The banter was great, and taking the mickey was the order of the day,” he added.
Dixie thanked everyone who joined in so splendidly.
“Special thanks go to the Callington community for making their homely facilities available to us. The irrepressible and hard-working Paul Thompson deserves immense credit for preparing the venue for us, ably supported by the ageless Clive Wundersitz,” he continued.
Dixie said they greatly benefited from the generous donations of Paul Clark, Ian Herbert, Lee Matthews, Tim Pellen, Mark Finlayson, Andrew Lee, Paul Tregloan, and Derek Braidner in our fundraising (and post-match fun raising); thank you all.
“Our whole cricketing community has embraced the cause incredibly positively by supporting this occasion and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia,” Dixie added.
Thank you for your splendid support. And the message: get yourself checked by your GP now!
