The weather couldn’t have been better for this year’s Shag Islet Cruising Yacht Club Rendezvous 2024 event, at the picturesque Gloucester Resort in the Whitsundays. Now in its 12th year, the event saw a fantastic turnout, with participants fully embracing the fun-filled fundraising activities for prostate cancer research and support.

From group games and a lively Jimmy Buffett concert to an impressive range of auction items and raffles, there was no shortage of ways to support the cause. A highlight of the weekend was the Pirate Party, where a few spirited participants had to "walk the plank"—all in good fun, and for a great cause. Even a mobile hairdresser set up shop on the beach, adding a unique touch to the fundraising efforts.

The event raised over $30,000, a remarkable achievement thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of everyone involved. "We’re just doing our bit to raise awareness within the yachting community. It’s crucial that we start conversations, get regular check-ups, and spread the message to the wider community," said SICYC Founder and Vice Commodore Ken Thackery.

Looking ahead, the SICYC team is already making plans for the next rendezvous, and we can’t wait to support them in 2025. A big thank you to Ken and all the Vice Commodores for their continued dedication and hard work!
