Turning 30 is a milestone worth celebrating, but when it’s a community of men and their partners supporting each other through their cancer journey, it takes on a whole new meaning.

The Townsville Prostate Cancer Support Group, established in 1994, has just marked its 30th anniversary. Over the past three decades, this group has been a cornerstone for men and their families, providing a unique source of local support in a region where no other group truly understood the challenges of their cancer journeys.

To celebrate this milestone, the group hosted a morning tea, bringing the community together to share stories and offer ongoing support to men currently battling prostate cancer in the area. Special guests included two local PCFA Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses, Kathleen and Donna, as well as Helen Payne, wife of Les Payne—former group leader and Max Gardiner recipient—who was pictured cutting the birthday cake alongside the current group leader, Clarke Berglin.

“It’s been a real pleasure leading the group since 2011. I know we’re making a difference, and I look forward to helping as many men and their families as we can in the coming months and years here in sunny Townsville,” Clarke shared.

The PCFA community is deeply grateful for the hard work and dedication of Clarke and the entire Townsville Prostate Cancer Support Group. Your ongoing efforts are truly making a difference, not just for Townsville, but for the entire region and every man who reaches out. Congratulations on this amazing achievement!
