If you’re fundraising for PCFA, it’s important to know that fundraising regulations vary between states and territories. While all regulatory bodies require you to register with PCFA and obtain an Authority to Fundraise, some other rules—such as those governing raffles, collection containers, and public collections—differ depending on your location.

Why do you need an Authority to Fundraise?

Before you start raising funds, you must register with PCFA and obtain an Authority to Fundraise. This ensures that your fundraising efforts align with PCFA’s mission, meet legal requirements, and maintain public trust. It also protects fundraisers by providing guidelines and support, ensuring donations are used appropriately and ethically.

State and territory fundraising requirements

When starting to plan your fundraiser, there are a number of things to consider:

  • Raffles & gaming permits: Some states require permits for raffles or gaming-related fundraising activities if prizes exceed a certain value.
  • Collection containers: Different states regulate the placement and use of donation tins.
  • Insurance & risk management: Ensure you have appropriate insurance to cover public liability and event-related risks.

Here’s a handy guide for you to check before you start fundraising to ensure your fundraiser meets local requirements.

Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

New South Wales (NSW)

By understanding and complying with these regulations, you can run successful and legally compliant fundraising activities while making a real difference in the fight against prostate cancer.

Always check with the relevant regulatory body to ensure you meet all requirements in your state or territory before you begin.
